Hello LUSD Families: Due to rainy conditions this afternoon (4/17/23), the softball games scheduled for both LHS and LMS have been cancelled. LHS will move today's games against Potter Valley to Wednesday, May 10th. The LMS game versus Fort Bragg has not yet been rescheduled.
Laytonville High School will get out at 1:45 on Wednesday and Thursday, April 5th and 6th for Parent Teacher Conferences. Parent Conferences will go from 2-4pm on Wednesday and from 4-6 on Thursday. Conferences will be located in the LHS library and snacks will be provided from the Culinary Arts Class. Third Quarter report cards will be available at the door.
On Thursday, March 23rd, Brett Hayes came to work with Native American students from Laytonville Elementary and High School. Brett came over from Round Valley to teach students how to make drums and drum sticks from deer hide. The smell of the hide was powerful, but the students all had a great time.
The LHS Sophomore class will have to reschedule their chili cook-off. It is canceled on Friday, 4/7/2023.

Today, the Ukiah Police Department received a call on their business line regarding an active shooter situation at Ukiah High School. Ukiah Police Department investigated this call and deemed it to be not credible. Ft. Bragg Unified and Willits Unified also received such calls. The FBI has issued a country-wide advisory warning of this national trend. The safety and well-being of students and staff is always our highest priority, and we take all necessary measures to ensure our campus was safe. LUSD will continue to monitor this case, and we will update you with any new information.
Please talk with your children about reporting any situation that causes discomfort so it can be fully investigated. Thank you to our county law enforcement officers, who did a fantastic job responding to this situation. Please contact the school should you or your student have any concerns or questions. LUSD has miscellaneous classroom furniture and chairs sitting by the music room at the old high school (next to the bus barn) that are free to anyone. Come by today, 3/31/2023, between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to pick up any of the items you would like. Please don’t pick up items outside of these times. The LHS Sophomore class will be having a chili cook-off fundraiser on April 7th at Room C1 in the high school. Anyone can enter chili for a $25 entry fee. There are prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Come support the Sophomore class as they fundraise for prom and their senior trip!
This week Laytonville High's Culinary 2 class went to the Benbow Inn. We took a tour of the historic inn, and learned about catering, event managing and the hospitality industry. We had lunch, toured the kitchens and learned more about working in the restaurant industry. Our day ended with a walk to the KOA and golf course with some conversation about tourism and recreation.
LUSD BUS UPDATE (3/29): Our North 101 bus will not be picking up at Spy Rock this morning due to weather conditions. All other stops will be made at usual times. Routes for both buses will be completed as usual this afternoon.
The middle school softball game today against Baechtel Grove will be a home game at 4:00 p.m. Come support our Warriors!
LES Site Council will be held this Thursday, 3/16, at 4:00 p.m. It was rescheduled due to the DAC meeting on Wednesday.

LUSD Families: We are going to only have one bus running this morning. The bus will first head south on Highway 101 before it goes north to Woodruff and turn around. The bus will then go around the lake and to the reservation stops. There will be no bus to Branscomb or Spy Rock this morning.
Good Morning LUSD Families & Staff: Due to very icy road conditions this morning (3/8), both of our Laytonville schools will start ONE HOUR LATER than usual. Our buses will run their normal routes but will reach scheduled stops an hour later as well. We anticipate the rain and snow to clear up soon which will allow students and staff to travel to school safely. Dismissal times at each site will be on the normal schedule. Bus routes will run as usual this afternoon. Thank you for your understanding as we navigate this challenging weather. Take care.

Good morning LUSD Families & Staff: Weather and road reports indicate that we can safely OPEN school this morning, so we will operate on our normal schedule today. Due to some snow on the roads last night, we will shorten both bus runs for pick up. The Branscomb run will stop before reaching Ben Mast Hill but will make all stops before that spot. The bus running north on 101 will only reach the Woodruff stop. Both routes will be fully completed this afternoon.
As always, we understand that there are homes in areas where the snow is more significant. Please take care in assessing your own situation and know that safety is always the highest priority when deciding to come to school. If you are unable to safely travel to school, please contact the office. Thank you.
Good Afternoon LUSD Families & Staff. Please mark on your calendars that all Laytonville schools will be open on March 13th and May 19th as regular school days . We had to use the snow days built into our calendar for school being closed last Thursday and Friday.
LUSD Transportation Update: our bus will not be able to travel past Ben Mast Hill on Branscomb Road this morning (3/1) due to icy conditions. We will be able to complete that route this afternoon. The north/south route on HWY 101 will not run past the Woodruff subdivision north of town. Take care.
